This is how the first climbers experienced Kilimanjaro, and it remains the standard way to climb the mountain on all routes except the Marangu route, which uses permanent huts. There are no lodges or guesthouses on the mountain, so tented camping is simply how it works.
At the end of each day on the trail, your team has already reached the next campsite and set everything up, ready for your arrival. When you leave in the morning, it is all packed away again. You carry nothing but your day pack.
We use high-quality mountain tents built to handle conditions that shift dramatically as you gain altitude, from warm and humid in the rainforest zones to cold and exposed higher up. The setup is back to basics: a tent and a sleeping mattress. Sleeping bags are not included as most climbers prefer their own, but they can be rented if needed.
